As the year of 2014, the estimation date of coral spawning was on the 15th of April 2014. In Pom Pom, in cooperation with Reef Check Malaysia (RCM), we did the Coral Spawning Monitoring since 13th of March. On the 11th of April the first nest of the season was laid! It is called Madina's turtles and has 86 eggs inside. The nest was relocated to the hatchery. The nest is due to hatch between the 26th of May and the 20th June, we wait impatiently to see the hatchlings.
Last week we have our repeater guest from Sweden in the house. They are three of them, Matts, Sofia and their wonderful daughter, Anaise. They are very keen on the conservation activity in Pom Pom. After the green turtle hatchlings were found the nest was caged and monitored for any other hatchlings emerging. Children activities continue every day for half an hour, where the children can draw, do sand art, crosswords or enjoy an underwater movie. This week Scarlette and Fang Fang enjoy colouring in some underwater scenes.
Lats night we found 77 green turtle hatchlings walking around the beach bar area. They were coming out of a nest in front of beach villa 1! All the hatchlings were collected and released by beach villa 22 where the light from the hotel is less. We are monitoring the nest waiting for more hatchlings [...]
