2 nights ago, we had a very strange guest visit our Island. At around 10pm, someone spotted a strange shaped rock moving on the beach outside the restaurant. On closer inspection, we discovered it was a horseshoe crab! This crab like creature hasn’t changed for over 250 million years, making it a very successful species dating back to prehistoric times, although in more recent years, man has effected its survival. It has blue blood due to its circulation system not using oxygen, and this is sometimes harvested. Only some of the blood is taken, and afterwards the crab is released back into the sea alive. All of our guests were called to come out, so they could watch it return to the sea.
