Arriving at paradise

I arrive for my first day on the job to such a beautiful setting!

I arrive for my first day on the job to such a beautiful setting!

What a day to arrive! Not only was the ocean calm, clean and the sun shining, making the day perfect to take envious pictures for mates and family back home, but I also got the pleasure to see green turtle hatchlings! And not just a couple, there were 168 of the little guys!

Three of the nests in the hatchery all hatched on the same day and roughly the same time! No matter how many times you see these beautiful charismatic creatures you are still overwhelmed and excited to see these tiny, vulnerable and amazing creatures! Our divemaster and conservation enthusiast Rayner and I released the hatchlings on a clean beach away from the resort.  Our resort manager and marine biologist Stevae enthusiastically informed the guests about the hatchlings journey.

Mr. Michael and Mrs. Valerie’s sponsored nest has hatched! Thank you again fro your help in saving the turtles of Pom Pom Island!

Guests were fortunate enough to experience this event as the baby turtles made the sprint for the water before they start their swimming frenzy. The sun was setting as the hatchlings entered the water and after a few resurfacing for air, they were gone! We wish them all the best on the next part of their adventure.

This is what 168 baby green turtles looks like!

Now that the hatchlings have made it to the sea, it doesn’t mean they are safe yet! They have plenty of predators to escape and need to conquer swell and currents, so we wish them the best of luck, they are on their own from now.  Hopefully they will be back in our waters in a few years! Good luck on the swimming frenzy.

Cheers,

Tess
